Abstract

Integrating young graduates into the workforce and meeting the needs of the labor market has long been a major challenge for higher education institutions. However, the mismatch between higher education supply and labor market demand makes this quest difficult. Despite the efforts made in recent years, the Moroccan context is no exception to this reality. In our work, we examine the relationship between higher education and the labor market, which has been subject to a large body of literature over the past few years. Indeed, this question of the gap between the education system and the labor market in Morocco requires reliable sectoral and occupational information. To this end, we first searched for relevant scientific articles in available databases, books, and official websites to complete our study. Second, we conducted a comprehensive review of the relevant literature on our topic using a narrative approach. The first part of this paper describes the global context and presents the main structural, demographic and statistical data to approach the situation in Morocco. The second part summarizes the literature on the mismatch between training and employment in an attempt to explain the link between higher education and the labor market. This study attempts to bring us closer to the reality of this link by addressing the key issues underlying the transition from academia to the labor market.
