Abstract

Youth activism has played a significant role in Nigeria’s political evolution, with young people consistently demonstrating their potential to drive transformative change. The #EndSARS protest of 2020 was a historic example of youthful strength capable of provoking political shifts, reflecting the energy, resilience, and organizational capacity of Nigerian youth. However, several systemic barriers hinder youth inclusion in governance, particularly the capital-intensive nature of politics, ideological inconsistencies, and the lack of global and international support for sustained activism. This paper explores the dynamics of youth political activism in Nigeria, the challenges it faces, and how strategic collaboration with development partners and international organizations can foster a new generation of political leaders in Nigeria and Africa at large.
