Abstract

The interdisciplinary approach in education has gained significant attention for its potential to address complex global challenges, particularly in the realm of sustainability. Our study explores the benefits of integrating diverse academic disciplines to enhance sustainability education. The background of this study is rooted in the increasing need for educational frameworks that can equip students with the holistic understanding required to tackle environmental issues. Despite the growing interest, there remains a research gap in understanding how interdisciplinary methods specifically contribute to sustainability education.  Our study aims to bridge this gap by investigating the perspectives of industry practitioners and taught post-graduate students enrolled in green business and sustainability programs.  The research objectives are to identify the perceived benefits of interdisciplinary education, understand its impact on students' preparedness for sustainability-related careers, and explore the challenges faced in implementing such approaches.  Methodologically, this study employs qualitative interviews with industry practitioners and master degree students to gather in-depth insights into their views on interdisciplinary education.  The contributions of this research are twofold: firstly, it provides empirical evidence on the effectiveness of interdisciplinary approaches in sustainability education; secondly, it offers practical recommendations for educators and policymakers to enhance curriculum design. Our findings include a comprehensive understanding of the advantages and obstacles associated with interdisciplinary education, as well as actionable strategies to improve sustainability education programs.
