Abstract

This study systematically explores the evolution of Chinese garden-themed lacquer painting through methods of literature review, comparative analysis, and case studies. By examining historical documents, academic papers, and books related to garden-themed lacquer art, this research delves into the cultural background, artistic characteristics, and developmental trajectory of this genre from ancient to modern times. The study incorporates the aesthetic characteristics and cultural meanings of the five distinct stages of classical Chinese garden development, comparing Chinese garden-themed lacquer paintings from different historical periods and regions to investigate their stylistic and technical features. Through case studies of representative works, the study reveals the intrinsic connections between Chinese lacquer art, traditional Chinese painting, and Chinese garden art. Affirms the role of Chinese garden-themed lacquer painting in fostering artistic innovation and cultural continuity. Findings indicate that, while rooted in traditional techniques, Chinese garden-themed lacquer painting has gradually integrated modern artistic styles, bringing new vitality and perspectives to lacquer art in China. Finally, the study provides an outlook on the future development of Chinese garden-themed lacquer painting.
