The Past and The Present of Aquaculture and Fisheries: A Focus on the Economy of Rural Gopalganj

With a particular focus on the village of Purnoboti in the Kotalipara Sub District, this study explores the socioeconomic dynamics of inland fisheries among the rural residents of Gopalganj. Because fisheries and fish hatcheries play a major role in their local economy, it is essential to comprehend how economic factors interact with the pursuit of profit maximization. The study implements qualitative methodology in order to have a closer examination into experiences of local fishermen on how they see the benefits and drawbacks of these technologies to their traditional forms of fishing as well as local livelihood. The research focuses on the impact on the individual level of income and sustainability of the community aimed at casting light on the broader economic implications of such changes on rural population. This paper explores the challenges that the local fishermen and stakeholders face to adapt to a fast-changing environment considering ecological conservation and economic viability.
