Influence of Emotional Intelligence (EI) on The Leadership Effectiveness of Secondary School Administrators and Its Implications for School Climate in North Central Nigeria

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of emotional intelligence (EI) on the leadership effectiveness of secondary school administrators and its implications for school climate in  North Central Nigeria. Emotional intelligence, characterized by the ability to recognize, understand, and manage one's own emotions as well as those of others, plays a crucial role in effective leadership within educational settings. In the Nigerian educational landscape, where diverse challenges often intersect with dynamic socio-cultural contexts, the role of emotional intelligence in leadership becomes particularly pertinent. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research examines the relationship between emotional intelligence competencies and leadership effectiveness among school administrators in North Central Nigeria. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys assessing emotional intelligence levels and leadership effectiveness perceptions, while qualitative data will be gathered through interviews to provide deeper insights into the experiences and perceptions of school administrators. The study aims to contribute to a better understanding of how emotional intelligence influences leadership practices in educational institutions, with a specific focus on its implications for school climate, exploring the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness, this research seeks to inform leadership development initiatives and foster a positive school climate conducive to student learning and well-being in North Central Nigeria. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for educational policymakers, school administrators, and leadership practitioners, highlighting the importance of emotional intelligence in fostering effective leadership practices and nurturing a supportive school environment in the region.
