The Indo-Pacific is a relatively new and multifaceted concept in the study of contemporary global issues. However, the world’s focus is shifting towards this region. This context has compelled many countries to have a clearer presence in the area through commitments, visions, and Indo-Pacific strategies such as the USA, Japan, Canada, the UK, France, South Korea, ASEAN, and others. On September 16, 2021, the EU announced its Indo-Pacific strategy. The strategy reflects a shift in perception towards the region and the spread of EU values and “assets” in addressing global challenges such as the environment and climate change. Through a comparative perspective, the research will highlight the differences in the values the EU aims to shape in the region, such as promoting peace, openness, and avoiding political conflict to address emerging challenges. Additionally, with ASEAN’s central role in the area, the research will analyze the opportunities and prospects for sustainable development cooperation between the EU and ASEAN, where the outcomes of such collaboration will significantly contribute to the success of the EU in implementing its Indo-Pacific strategy.
